(ORDO NEWS) — An American heavy stealth strategic bomber developed by Northrop Grumman, the B-2A Spirit, made an emergency landing, as a result of which a fire broke out and the aircraft was damaged.
The incident took place at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, where a fleet of 20 existing B-2 aircraft is based.
Slightly more than half of them are in constant combat readiness, so any significant damage to the B-2 is a serious event.
According to Thedrive, “During a scheduled flight, a US Air Force B-2 Spirit encountered an in-flight malfunction and sustained damage on the runway at Whiteman Air Force Base after a successful emergency landing.
The pilots were not injured. The fire that occurred after landing was successfully extinguished. The incident is under investigation.”
This accident is similar to the incident that occurred in September 2021. Then the B-2 caught on the left wing of the ground and rolled out of the runway.
Let me remind you that on November 7, the United States took off almost half of its B-2 Spirit stealth bombers.
