(ORDO NEWS) — An American heavy stealth strategic bomber B-2A Spirit, developed by Northrop Grumman, made an emergency landing on December 10, as a result of which a fire broke out and the aircraft was damaged.
The incident took place at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, where 20 of all B-2 aircraft in existence today are based.
Blurry, low-resolution satellite imagery emerged on December 18 showing the crashed B-2 still on the runway.
Other images taken from the ground have been posted on social media showing the stealth bomber lying sideways.
Sergeant Major Del Vecchio, a public relations specialist, was unable to provide any details about the extent of the damage or why the bomber has not yet been removed from the runway, when asked by Thedrive.
However, the sergeant confirmed that there was no ammunition on board the B-2A Spirit at the time of the incident.
