Astronomers recorded strange activity in a newly discovered star

(ORDO NEWS) — Recently, astronomers have observed the country and the mysterious star, which is located at a distance of about 15 thousand light years from our planet. They identified unusual activity that they had never encountered before.

The star was named Swift J1818.0-1607. It was discovered last year and was classified as one of the magnetars that can create a magnetic field of incredible strength.

To date, only 30 such objects have been discovered in the Milky Way. But none were as pulsating as the newly discovered star. Some of the experts believed that this star could become the missing link that connects magnetars and pulsars.

In 2020, the star was observed for five months using the Parkes CSIRO radio telescope. The radio pulses of the star were constantly changing.

At first they were the most common, then gradually became more intense and then subsided again. Markus Lower said that experts had never recorded such a strange behavior of the star. But this state was short-lived, because after a while the magnetar passed into the usual magnetar-like state.
