(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists presented interesting findings to the public. As it turned out, the number of planets on which life can exist in theory is greater than the number of people on Earth.
Space is incredibly huge, so there are definitely planets on which, if not developed life, then at least there is primitive. What can I say, if only in our galaxy there are billions of planets that resemble the dimensions of the Earth and revolve around stars like the Sun. Astronomers also found that these planets are in areas that are not too cold or hot, so the birth of organisms there is quite possible.
Scientists using NASA data have found that in the Milky Way there are 8.8 billion doubles of the blue globe. It turns out that the number of possible habitats of creatures is greater than people on Earth. Such conclusions were made by Jeff Mercy with colleagues from the University of California at Berkeley.
In the future, it will be determined whether the detected objects have an atmosphere. For research, space telescopes are needed, which, unfortunately, have not yet been launched. It’s hard to say when this will be done. Only telescopes will determine the population of other worlds by living organisms.
Interestingly, every fifth star in the Milky Way resembles the Sun in a number of ways. Planets similar to the Earth revolve around luminaries. These conclusions were made after numerous calculations based on information collected and analyzed over four years by the Kepler telescope, which belongs to NASA. The equipment allowed to study 42 thousand stars. Based on this number, the number of Earth twins was calculated. The error rate was 8%.
In total, there are 200 billion stars in the Milky Way, of which 40-50 are similar to the Sun. If you take the mark of 50, then the twins of the Earth are approximately 11 billion.
