(ORDO NEWS) — Researchers at the Australian National University announced that they have completed a study of the feeding processes of 5,000 of the fastest growing black holes in the universe.
It is noted that even light is not able to leave black holes. However, they can be detected by indirect signs.
In particular, with the help of modern means of observation, it is possible to fix the moments of absorption by black holes of passing stars.
In this process, space objects turn into accretion disks. Their radiance is comparable in power to the light of entire galaxies.
The brightness of the glow is constantly changing. In order to understand the reasons for this, a team of Australian and American astronomers spent five years observing the five thousand most “gluttonous” black holes.
As a result, experts found out that the flickering of the disk occurs as a result of turbulence in a superdense, uncontrolled environment, under the influence of intense gravitational and magnetic fields.
Astronomers said they plan to further investigate the power mechanisms of black holes, taking into account the data obtained.
