(ORDO NEWS) — European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti noticed a strange bright light in the middle of the desert.

Sharing several photos of the strange sight on Twitter, the astronaut noted that it is unusual to see such a bright spot during the day.

The bright spot turned out to be the Ashalim solar thermal power plant, which consists of more than 50,000 computer-controlled mirrors, with a 250-meter solar tower at its center.

Mirrors track the Sun, reflecting its light into a cauldron at the top of the tower. The boiler, in turn, heats up and produces steam to power the turbine.
