(ORDO NEWS) — Chemist Helen Sharman is the UK‘s first astronaut and, until December 15, 2015, the country’s only astronaut. Known for visiting the Soviet space station Mir in May 1991.
Almost three years ago, she gave an interview to the Sunday edition of The Observer, sharing her opinion on extraterrestrial life and the hypothetical contact of people with these very “brothers in mind”.
“Aliens exist. There should be no other opinion on this topic.
Among the billions of stars, there must be various forms of life,” said Sharman.
Typical chemistry
Being a chemist by profession, Ms. Sharman claims that any person who has at least basic knowledge in the field of mathematics, chemistry and astronomy will come to a similar conclusion sooner or later.
“The universe is too big for the Earth to be the only place where the typical chemistry [talking about the universe being made up of the same chemical elements] has given rise to life,” Sharman added.
“Probably aliens are completely different from what we imagine, but this does not exclude the fact from existence.”
She explained that the aliens may consist of some other compounds (earthly life is based on compounds of nitrogen and carbon), so it is possible that they are already among us , but we do not even know about their existence.
When asked by a journalist about personal contact with extraterrestrial life, Sharman answered with a smile:
“No, nothing like that in my career, unfortunately, was not.”
