(ORDO NEWS) — The newly discovered asteroid, designated 2020 PY2, is expected to fly past Earth at 0.90 LD / 0.00232 AU. (347,067 km) August 20, 2020. It is the 51st known asteroid to fly past Earth within 1 lunar distance since the beginning of the year.
The 2020 PY2 was first seen at Pan-STARRS 1, Haleakala, Hawaii on August 12, 8 days prior to its convergence.
The asteroid belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter of 15 to 33 m.
It will bypass the Earth at 21:31 UTC (± 07:48 min) on August 20 at a speed (relative to Earth) of 17.08 km / s.
