(ORDO NEWS) — The presence of alien life forms worries mankind for many centuries. Ancient minds wondered about the exclusivity of the human species.
Currently, there is also an active search for biological life forms on other cosmic bodies. A group of American scientists conducted a study during which they identified seven objects in the solar system in which life could presumably be born. The scientists published the details of the scientific work on the portal arXiv.org.
It is reported that astronomers have developed a criterion by which they identified the space objects of the system as suitable for the formation of biological forms.
Scientists called the conditional scale the microbial habitability index (MHI). In it, scientists took into account some physical processes, the characteristics of which are approximately similar to those of the earth.
In total, six parameters were included in the criterion, namely pressure, acidity, temperature, ionizing salinity and ultraviolet radiation. Next, the scientists analyzed the types of environments that were similar to those on Earth.
According to the characteristics obtained, scientists studied space objects and bodies in the solar system. The planets Mars and Pluto fell under the described requirements, and the presence of life is assumed on Enceladus, Europa, Titan, Ganymede and Callisto.
Scientists noted that Enceladus has the most “chance” for the development of life. Next in the “top” is Mars and Europe.
