(ORDO NEWS) — Archaeologists managed to find the first evidence that the earthquake described in the Bible really happened.
In the Old Testament, you can find a detailed description of the catastrophe that Jerusalem suffered about 2,800 years ago, but no evidence of this has been found before. Reported by The Daily Mail.
Archaeologists carried out excavations on the territory of the national park in the city of David.
This area is considered to be the oldest. In it, they found a whole layer of various destructions. They unearthed broken ceramic objects, destroyed walls and fragments of various products.
At the same time, not a single sign was noticed that this destruction was provoked by a fire or an attack by enemies. Accordingly, it was concluded that the cause was a strong earthquake that occurred around the 8th century BC.
The Bible says that the earthquake happened when Israel was ruled by the Jewish king Uziyahu.
Several references to him were found in those texts that were written two centuries later. This suggests that the terrible catastrophe was remembered for a long time.
The artifacts discovered by specialists were at a fairly deep depth. Archaeologists are confident that the locals did not clean up anything and built new housing right on the site of the ruins.
