(ORDO NEWS) — In Japan, an aquarium fish gained access to its owner’s credit card by playing a console.
The pet belongs to YouTuber Mutekimaru, whose videos featuring tetra fish playing video games are popular.
As the TV channel notes, this is possible thanks to the sophisticated software installed in the aquarium. It tracks movements and allows the fish to remotely control the Nintendo Switch console.
If the fish stops or changes direction, the corresponding controller input is registered in the game.
The incident happened during a pet playthrough stream for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. At some point, the game crashed and the console returned to the main screen.
Mutekimaru was absent from the apartment at the time. The fish continued to move around the aquarium, and the motion capture controller captured its movements for seven hours.
At some point, the fish accidentally entered the correct data sequence and added 500 yen to Mutekimaru’s account from his credit card linked to the account.
In addition, the pet was also able to upload a new avatar and even enter the play store.
According to the channel, Mutekimaru contacted Nintendo and, after explaining the situation, asked for a refund.
The company declined to comment, citing the confidentiality of customer data.
