US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Apple CEO Tim Cook posted a video on Twitter about the company’s efforts to tackle the coronavirus epidemic. Apple has purchased more than 20 million medical masks and is ready to send them for free to doctors who are short of protective equipment.
Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers. pic.twitter.com/3xRqNgMThX

In addition, company employees — designers, engineers, supply chain managers and packaging developers — have joined forces to provide healthcare workers with protective face shields. One of these Cook demonstrated in the video.
According to the head of Apple, the first batch of face shields was sent last week to the Kaiser hospital in the Santa Clara Valley, and the doctors’ comments were “very positive.” Protective devices made of transparent plastic are packed in stacks of 100, and the elastic mount is easily adjustable.
The company promises to produce 1 million of such protective shields every week. At first they will be distributed only in the USA, but then they are going to expand the geography of deliveries.
