(ORDO NEWS) — 240 imperial barns were found in the ruins of the imperial palace in the city of Luoyang / Prov. Henan, Central China.
This is the first case of discovery of the foundations of warehouses in the territory of the ancient urban area “Hanwei Luoyang”.
These pantries, which are the imperial government warehouses of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), belong to the highest class of such ancient structures discovered in China.
These pantries formed a relatively independent zone 150 meters wide from east to west and 600 meters long from north to south.
In 2022, a group of archaeologists continued to excavate the eastern wall of the palace city in order to further study its architectural layout.
“This discovery has greatly enriched the content of the study of the form and layout of the ancient capital city and the architectural objects of the warehouse type,” said Liu Tao, head of the archaeological team.
The ancient city under the archaeological name “Hanwei Luoyang”, located on the territory of the present city of Luoyang, existed for more than 1500 years, including 600 years as the capital of many dynasties of ancient China.
