Ancient animal petroglyphs found in Northwest China

(ORDO NEWS) — A new complex of petroglyphs was discovered recently in the Helanshan Mountains in the city of Shizuishan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region / Northwest China / after one of the similar complexes was found in the same place more than two months ago, the local administration for the protection of cultural relics.

According to the results of the preliminary survey, the petroglyphs are carved into the surface of a dark gray sandstone of an uneven structure and extend over an area of ​​about 80 meters in length, where there are more than 30 individual petroglyphs.

According to experts, among the more than 30 new rock paintings discovered, the most recognizable are mainly images of horses and deer, with herds of horses, deer and symbols making up the majority.

At the same time, the area of ​​the largest image with a herd of horses is 1.68 square meters. meters. These images are well preserved and, according to scientists, were made using different application techniques.

The Helanshan Mountains are considered a representative area of ​​rock art and petroglyphs in northern China. To date, more than 10 thousand rock paintings and carved images have been found there, the age of which is from 10 thousand to 3 thousand years.

According to local authorities, the finds provided reference material for studying the social life of ancient people, as well as powerful evidence for studying their primitive way of life.
