(ORDO NEWS) — Traffic police in Wiltshire, England, stopped a 55-year-old woman during a routine ID check and were shocked when they discovered that the motorist had driven a car for 38 years without a driver’s license. Reported by the Daily Mail.
The woman was caught by law enforcement officers when she was driving along the A350 highway near the town of Melkshem. She was stopped by inspectors to check documents.
The police discovered that the woman had been driving a car without a driver’s license since 1983. During all this time, the motorist was asked to show her documents for the first time.
The Englishwoman admitted that she learned to drive while still in school, “when Margaret Thatcher was prime minister,” but never took an exam to get a driver’s license.
Law enforcement officers told the motorist that she would have to go home on foot or by taxi, since she could not continue the trip on her own. They called a tow truck to confiscate her car.
The Wiltshire Special Operations Department posted on Twitter a photo showing a silver Citroen Picasso, allegedly belonging to the intruder, taken as it is being loaded onto a tow truck.
Driving without a license in the UK can result in penalties, fines or even up to six months in prison.
