(ORDO NEWS) — Experts conducted another analysis of the genomes of Neanderthals and Denisovans. As a result of this study, it was possible to establish another ancestor, previously unknown to science. This branch existed for a very long time and did not have any specific genome.
Also, scientists with the help of research were able to find evidence that there is a connection between humans and Neanderthals, which was present approximately 200-300 thousand years ago. Such crossbreeding may explain how exactly our species appeared and how migration from Africa took place.
There is a possibility that the discovered unknown ancestor may be Homo erectus. This is an archaic ancestor of people, who, according to experts, died out about 100 thousand years ago. But, since its DNA could not be detected, scientists are not going to defend this theory at the moment.
To study patterns in genomes, experts used a Bayesian algorithm. In this situation, a study of the DNA of two modern Africans, two Neanderthals and a Denisovan, was carried out. After that, the model correlated the mixing of DNA with a particular period of time. As a result of the study, it was possible to establish that approximately 15% of Denisov’s DNA has an origin unknown to science. At the same time, these areas are still present in the DNA of modern people.
In addition, it was possible to reveal that 3-7% of Neanderthal DNA contains regions characteristic of ancient H. Sapiens. This indicates that there have been a huge number of connections between different species for a long time.
The latest study, which concerns the study of the genomes of ancient people, was published in the scientific journal PLOS Genetics.
