(ORDO NEWS) — In the Myagdi region, many pigs died from African swine fever.
More than 300 pigs have died from the infection in Beni and the rural areas of the area, according to Myagdi Veterinary Hospital and Animal Expertise Center.
According to the head of the centre, Jeevan Prasad Acharya, African swine fever has been confirmed in samples taken from some farms.
The first case of African swine fever was found on a pig farm in the rural municipality of Annapurna 2.
The Acharya said that while there is no cure for the disease, it can be reduced by vaccinating pigs. However, it has an effect on people.
According to the Animal Services Department of Beni Municipality, 250 pigs have died in Mangalaghat, Beni-7 Municipality.
Meanwhile, pig farmers have called for an educational campaign to combat the disease in the area.
The veterinary hospital and the Animal Expertise Center have asked farmers to separate the suspected animals from the herd and notify the center as soon as possible, and dispose of the dead animals in pits.
