(ORDO NEWS) — US authorities have asked a 100-year-old woman to prove she is still alive.
100-year-old Betty Ashley from the US state of Florida faced an unexpected problem: the federal Human Resources Department refuses to give her pension payments if she does not show proof of her existence. It is reported by KTV.
When the woman turned to the US Office of Human Resources, she was asked to prove that she had not yet died.
“Someone from the Office said: “Oh my God. She is 100 years old. Why would we think that she is still alive?” said the daughter of the centenarian Thelma Metzger.
Ashley tried to send the authorities a notarized form and a photograph of herself holding the latest issue of the newspaper, but was unable to convince them. The presented documents were not enough to resume payments.
“I’m alive. And in June I’m going to celebrate the 101st year,” she explained to a KTVE correspondent.
Earlier it was reported that centenarians from the city of Tillicoltree, UK, got married 60 years after the engagement. Alex Hamilton, now 90, and his 89-year-old sweetheart Jane met in 1956.
