A simultaneous pandemic of coronavirus and influenza is approaching Europe

(ORDO NEWS) — The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control presented a report on the ongoing development of the coronavirus and the influenza that has returned to the continent.

On this basis, the experts of the Center fear that influenza and covid will affect people at the same time, and this will put an enormous burden on healthcare systems, which can no longer fully cope with the influx of patients.

Therefore, influenza and coronavirus pandemics – tweendemia – can begin simultaneously in Europe.

Experts came to such conclusions due to the fact that an increase in influenza patients was recorded – 43 people in the last week of December 2021.

It is noted that this is less than before the coronavirus pandemic, but it still does not bode well.

And if we begin to cancel the “antique” or other measures, then the twindemia can be multiplied. According to forecasts, the incidence of influenza may last until the summer.

“If we start lifting all measures, then my main concern is influenza, since we have had almost no circulation among the population of Europe for so long, we may move away from normal seasonal patterns,” warned ECDC chief expert Pasi Penttinen.
