(ORDO NEWS) — Not all artifacts found by archaeologists can be explained by scientists. There are things that still cause surprise and misunderstanding. Such items include a fragment of a bronze artifact found in Belgium.
In the north of Belgium, archaeologists found “something incomprehensible” and this object is approximately 1600 years old. There were more than 100 such finds in Europe.
Scientists named them the Roman dodecahedron. This is a small 12-sided bronze figure. There is a large hole on each face of the object, and a spike on each corner. No one knows what it is and what it was used for.
Guido Krimers, an employee of the Gallo-Roman Museum in Belgium, says that today there are several hypotheses that could explain what dodecahedrons are, but there is no definite confirmation.
Guido says that it could have been some kind of calendar or some kind of measuring instrument. Some people speculate that it could have been a symbol of power or a game tool. There is also an idea that dodecahedrons were used for magical purposes.
It is likely that they were divined and tried to predict the future. In the Christian religion, such things were strictly forbidden, but magicians and sorcerers were popular even in such times.
The found fragment fits in the hand, its width is about 5 cm. The museum exhibits one complete bronze dodecahedron, which was found in 1939 in Tongeren.
There are no symbols or inscriptions on such artifacts. No one mentioned anything about them in the old scriptures. Because of this, it is practically impossible to solve the riddle.
Scientists say they find many mysterious objects, but rarely talk about them. However, first they try to figure out: what it is, what it was used for, and then they present the antiques in the museum.
