A liquid metal battery has started up at room temperature
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — American scientists managed to create a battery based on liquid crystals, which works at room temperature.
The anode in the new battery with organic matter is an alloy of sodium with potassium, and the cathode is liquid alloys based on gallium.
The advantages of batteries with liquid electrolyte over other batteries are the absence of dendrites, which lead to a short circuit, high energy intensity and a large number of recharge cycles.
At room temperature, the metals remain in liquid form. The electrolyte does not dissolve metals, so the new battery does not discharge.
