(ORDO NEWS) — In the city of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province / South China /, a total of 184 historical monuments dating back to the period from the Han Dynasty / 202 BC / were discovered.
220 AD / to the Qing Dynasty /1644-1911/, as well as a number of cultural relics.
These historical monuments were found at the construction site of a project to expand the territory of one of the local hospitals. Archaeological excavations here were launched in June 2022.
In the course of the work of archaeologists, such ancient objects as drains and wells, as well as city ditches and protective dams, dating back to the eras of different dynasties, were found here.
Archaeological excavations have also unearthed over 300 items/sets of cultural relics, including clay water pipes, pots, bowls, jugs, and tiles of various shapes.
Archaeologists have also unearthed three tombs dating back to the Western Han Dynasty /202 BC. – 25 AD/. Two of them contained human skeletal remains.
According to archaeologists, building elements discovered during archaeological excavations indicate the presence of high-ranking structures here in the old days.
New finds are of great importance for studying the development of urban planning in Guangzhou and changes in the historical and geographical environment here in ancient times.
