(ORDO NEWS) — In mid-January, the asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1 will sweep near our planet at a great speed. It has such a size that makes it possible to classify the cosmic body as potentially dangerous for the Earth and humanity asteroids. The length of the object reaches one kilometer. It was also classified as dangerous for the reason that this is not the first time it has flown near our planet.
In January, the visit of the space body will be completely safe. The distance between the Earth and (7482) 1994 PC1 will be 1.93 million kilometers, which is 5 times the distance to the Moon.
Experts, just in case, calculated the trajectory of its flight with an insignificant error of 133 kilometers, so they assure that there is not even an insignificant risk that a collision with this object will occur in the near future. The closest approach (7482) 1994 PC1 and Earth will occur on the night of January 18.
A space body called (7482) 1994 PC1 was first recorded by astronomer Robert McNaught back in 1994 at the Siding Spring Observatory, which is located in Australia. Experts then began to track its path and were eventually able to find images of the asteroid, starting in 1974. This allows today to be completely confident in its orbital path.
The last approach to our planet took place in mid-January 1933. Then the distance did not exceed 1.1 million kilometers. At the same distance, the next time (7482) 1994 PC1 will fly in 2105.
The speed of the cosmic body is simply enormous and reaches 19.56 kilometers per second. This indicates that the asteroid will not resemble a star flying through the night sky. It will not be bright enough, so you will not be able to see it through binoculars or with the naked eye.
It is worth noting that a fairly large asteroid will also sweep past our planet on January 11. Its diameter is 104 meters, and the distance between the object and the Earth will not be more than 5.6 million kilometers.
Scientists from NASA have warned that five asteroids will soon approach the Earth. The size of one of the space objects is approximately 100 meters. Large asteroids will approach the Earth on January 5,6,7,11. Scientists have assured that these space bodies do not pose any threat to the planet, but they will fly at a fairly close distance.
NASA constantly monitors how asteroids move, which can harm the Earth and all of humanity. But those space objects that come close to the planet in the next few days will not pose any danger at all.
To date, the most dangerous asteroid in the solar system is considered to be the Bennu asteroid, but there is only 1 in 1750 chances that it will collide with the Earth in the next two centuries.
