(ORDO NEWS) — A bright meteor lit up the Norwegian night sky in different colors.
The fall of a space rock was observed in the southwest of the country on Saturday evening and prompted local residents to call the authorities to find out its origin. Agder police assured the locals that it was most likely a meteorite.
The meteorite flashed in different colors as it passed through the atmosphere.
“The police received a call about a strong beam of light in the sky, which alternated with several colors – this was visible from the Vigmostad area,” the police wrote on Twitter.
“The police contacted the Meteorological Institute, who suggested that it could be a meteorite.”
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has confirmed that the meteorite belongs to an annual shower called the Northern Tauris.
The incident comes a couple of months after hundreds of people across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England watched an unusual fireball light up the night sky.
The fireball was visible in the sky for 10 to 20 seconds, which is too long for a meteor. That is, it is not clear whether the fireball was actually a space rock, a piece of space debris, or something else.
