US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Police in Sri Lanka have arrested a person for violation of 8451 curfew imposed because of the pandemic coronavirus, said Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana.
Sri Lankan authorities imposed curfew on March 20 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the data on Wednesday, 143 cases of infection were registered in the country; in the last day, 21 new patients were diagnosed with the virus.
Rohana noted that in the last day alone, island police arrested 1,093 people and seized 310 vehicles. In total, 2078 vehicles were seized during the curfew.
He added that at all 16 points of entry into the capital of Colombo, posts will be established at which passes issued by the authorities will be checked.
The deputy head of police noted that on April 1, the grace period for registration of foreigners arriving after March 16 ended.
According to him, everyone who did not want to register can be arrested and will be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the Quarantine and Disease Prevention Order and the Sri Lanka Code of Criminal Procedure. He also called on those who did not have time to register to report about themselves to the nearest police station or to call the police hotline.
The World Health Organization on March 11 announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 with a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 750 thousand cases of infection have been recorded in the world, more than 36 thousand people have died.
