US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — 7457 new coronavirus cases and 656 new deaths in Spain. The new Covid-19 coronavirus already leaves 49,515 cases of contagion in Spain, 40,501 active, after the death of 3,647 people and the recovery of 5,367 patients, according to data from the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities.

The rapid spread of cases in March has led the Government to request Congress to extend the state of alarm until April 11, a mechanism that has been activated for the second time in democracy.

The Valencian Community, which confirmed the first death from the virus in Spain on March 3, has so far recorded 143 deaths. Since then, 1,825 have been recorded in Madrid, 672 in Catalonia, 263 in Castilla-La Mancha, 165 in Castilla y León, 155 in the Basque Country, 113 in Andalusia, 40 in Aragón, 39 in Extremadura, 37 in La Rioja, 33 in Navarra, 30 in Galicia, 25 in Asturias, 24 in the Canary Islands, 19 in the Balearic Islands, 14 in Cantabria, eight in Murcia and one in Melilla.

The Community of Madrid accumulates the highest number of confirmed cases with 14,597. They are followed by Catalonia (11,592), the Basque Country (3,271), Andalusia (3,010), Castilla y León (2,940) and Castilla-La Mancha (2,780). 2,616 cases have been identified in the Valencian Community, 1,653 in Galicia, 1,197 in Navarra, 928 in La Rioja, 907 cases in Aragon, 779 in Asturias, 742 in Extremadura, 787 cases in the Canary Islands, 562 in the Balearic Islands, 510 in Cantabria , 596 in Murcia -one of them a five-month-old baby- and 38 in Melilla. Ceuta confirmed its first case on March 15 and accumulates ten positives.
