(ORDO NEWS) — April is considered Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Therefore, representatives of the Mayo Clinic spoke about her symptoms in more detail.
More than 10 million people in the world and approximately 1 million in the US are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
It is a disorder of the nervous system in which motor activity is disturbed. The earliest signs of this disease may go unnoticed. In this case, it can begin on one side of the body and gradually move to the other.
Here’s what to look out for if you suspect you or a loved one has Parkinson’s disease.
1- Tremor. For example, they may tremble even at rest. Tremors or tremors usually begin in the fingers, hands, or limbs.
2- Slow motions. It may be difficult for you to get up from a chair, or you may notice that you have begun to walk more slowly. When walking, the legs may also drag.
3- Muscle stiffness. This sign can appear in any part of the body.
4- Violation of posture and balance. You may begin to slouch or lose your balance from time to time.
5- Loss of the ability to make movements “on the machine”. You may find it difficult to smile, wave your arms as you walk, or blink.
6- Speech change. With Parkinson’s disease, a person may begin to speak too quickly or quietly, slurred, think for a long time before it. Speech may also become more monotonous than usual.
7- Changes in the letter. People with Parkinson’s disease may have difficulty writing, making their handwriting appear small.
Parkinson’s disease is considered incurable. However, all symptoms can be reduced with medication.
