4 children killed and 4 injured in lightning strike in Jharkhand, India

(ORDO NEWS) — Four children were killed by lightning strikes in the Ramgarh and Latekhar districts on Sunday. Kishore Kumar Rajak, Ramgarh Police Chief, reported that two children, Vikas Bhuiyan (10 years old) and Kundan Bhuiyan (8 years old), were killed in the Maliagadha area under the Mandu police station. Both children were picking mangoes under a tree during a thunderstorm when lightning struck them.

Police said they had received a death report from local residents and an autopsy would be carried out shortly.

In another incident in Latehar, Karan Singh (12 years old) and Pankaj Singh (10 years old) were killed at the Manik police station, and four others – Ranjan Singh (6 years old), Satyam Singh (5 years old), Anita Kumari (7 years old) and Rupesh Singh (12 years old) – Injured by lightning while playing in an open field. The victims are being treated at a local government hospital. The incident took place in Sadhvadih village.

Earlier that day, the Meteorological Office issued a nationwide thunderstorm and lightning warning and warned people against going out into the open during a thunderstorm.

17 goats killed by lightning in Tamil Nadu, India

A shepherd lost 17 of his goats when they were struck by lightning in the village of Mela Prancheri near Manur on Sunday evening.

Police said Chelladurai (52) had taken his goats to pasture.

At about five o’clock in the evening, it began to rain and lightning struck the goats, killing them on the spot.

The villagers demanded compensation.
