(ORDO NEWS) — Aerospace company Relativity Space has fully assembled and installed its two-stage 33-meter Terran 1 rocket on the launch complex. Interestingly, 85% of its design was printed on a 3D printer.
The rocket is currently undergoing final ground tests before flight.
In addition to the rocket body itself, the nine Aeon engines on the first stage of the rocket, along with the Aeon Vac engine on the second, are also 3D printed.
Relativity Space calls its creation “the largest 3D-printed object in existence that has attempted orbital flight.” If successful, the company plans to create the next rocket, 95% of which will be 3D printed.
If the Terran 1 tests go according to plan, the rocket will go into space in February.
