(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists have calculated that in about a hundred years, several countries will completely or partially disappear from the face of the earth. The list includes the Maldives, the Netherlands and Australia, reports WomanHit.
According to scientists, all these countries are threatened with flooding. Already, every year the water level in the world’s oceans is getting higher.
In particular, in the Maldives, the danger of flooding is so serious that the country’s authorities have begun to consider the option of relocating residents to the land they plan to acquire.
In the Netherlands, the situation is better: the country is protected by powerful dams. But sooner or later they may not withstand the pressure of water from outside, scientists are sure. According to their calculations, the country has about 70 more years to resolve this issue.
In the case of Australia, surrounded on all sides by water, flooding can occur in any part of the state. However, scientists are most concerned about the western coast of the country, where the water level rises by nine millimeters a year.
At the same time, it is in this part of Australia that the main part of the cities significant for the prosperity of the state is located.
