China became a leader in seafood exports in 2019. Export for the year amounted to 12.47 billion dollars. At the same time, compared with 2018, the volume of exports decreased – so, in 2018, exports amounted to 13.25 billion dollars. Norway came in second place in 2019 – here, seafood exports reached $ 11.67 billion. In addition, a significant portion of Chilean exports goes to EU countries. Compared to 2018, exports in 2019 decreased slightly – from 5.88 billion to 5.78 billion dollars.
The top five leader is Vietnam, whose seafood export amounted to $ 5.60 billion in 2019. As of 2012, more than 5 million people are employed in this industry, and Vietnamese seafood is exported to Japan and other countries of Southeast Asia.
Canada is the sixth largest seafood exporter. According to data for 2019, exports amounted to 5.17 billion dollars. Canada exports crab, shrimp, salmon and other seafood. Compared to 2018, Canada’s exports have grown significantly: for example, in 2018 it amounted to only 4.92 billion dollars.
The United States was in seventh place with exports of $ 4.87 billion. The ninth place is taken by the Netherlands. According to the results of 2019, seafood exports amounted to 4.64 billion dollars. The main buyers of Dutch seafood are countries such as Germany (18.7%), Belgium (15.3%), France (12.5%), Italy (9.1%) and Spain (6.5%).
Sweden closes the top ten, which in 2019 exported seafood worth $ 4.38 billion. It is one of the largest seafood exporters in the European Union.
