US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel has asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to consider transparently the new coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines developed by China.
“The pandemic has caused many deaths. Societies and economies face a great challenge. We can control the pandemic only through joint efforts. China and Germany can play important roles here,” Merkel said in an online consultative meeting between German and Chinese governments.
Stressing the importance of international co-operation in achieving the desired victory in the fight against coronavirus, Merkel said that it is necessary under the auspices of the WHO to discuss openly and transparently the Chinese vaccines against coronavirus and the possible mutual recognition of vaccines Like that.
Merkel further said that the partnership with China includes potential talks and difficult topics, especially regarding respect for human rights and the situation in Hong Kong.
“So far, we have always solved these problems and I would like to see if it is possible to reopen the topic of human rights,” Merkel said.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said it was no secret that China and Germany have disagreements on some issues, but that it is important to respect the interests and fears that one side has on some issues.
“There is no interference in internal affairs, and communication strengthens trust and reduces insecurity. We can create an atmosphere to reduce disagreements and strengthen cooperation,” Lee said.
Next year, China and Germany will mark five decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, while the Chinese prime minister said it is necessary to lift some blockades and build relations on the basis of mutual interests.
